| The Widowing of Mrs
Holroyd charts the final months of the failed marriage between
Charles Holroyd, a coarse and drunken miner, and his careworn
wife, Lizzie. Exhausted and overworked, Lizzie bitterly
regrets marrying 'beneath' herself. Tempted to run away
with the local electrician, Mr Blackmore, she begins to resent
her husband, and, in her despair, wishes Charles dead. In
a cruel twist of fate, Lizzie's husband then loses his life in a
pit accident. As the wronged wife becomes the guilty
widow, Lizzie rediscovers her love for Charles, albeit too late,
and is forced to reconsider her husband's character. |
