Production
'Edge of Darkness was very much a reflection of its time, although it had, I hope, some qualities which have transcended it,' writes the series' creator Troy Kennedy-Martin.  In fact, this political thriller is now widely regarded as one of the best television series ever produced, and was voted the fourth greatest drama series/serial in the British Film Institute's survey.  Policeman Ronald Craven sees his daughter, Emma, gunned down in an apparently motiveless attack.  Launching his own investigation into her murder, he uncovers details about her work as an environmental campaigner that his colleagues have either deliberately ignored or overlooked.  On his quest to find his daughter's killer, he crosses the path of British and American government officials - including Clementine (who, in true Bond-girl style, sleeps with a gun under her pillow!) - who all express a mysterious interest in his daughter's activities...
