Baptista, a gentleman of Padua, has two daughters.  The elder, Katharina (known as Kate), is widely considered troublesome, and so has no suitors.  By contrast, her younger sister Bianca is extremely popular, but has been prevented by her father from marrying until Kate has found a husband.  The situation seems hopeless until the arrival of the adventurer Petruchio, who determines to tame the apparently shrewish Kate.
Notes
Zoë played the role of Katharina in this production, alongside Jeremy Irons as Petruchio.
