Production |
| Baptista, a
gentleman of Padua, has two daughters. The elder,
Katharina (known as Kate), is considered troublesome, and so has
no suitors. Bianca, her younger sister, is extremely
popular, but prevented by her father from marrying until Kate
has found a husband. The situation seems hopeless until
the arrival of Petruchio, an adventurer, who determines to tame
the apparently shrewish Kate... |

Notes |
| Zoë had previously
performed as Katharina in The Taming of the Shrew, as part of a
New Shakespeare Company production at the Roundhouse, which
opened on 3rd June 1975. Jeremy Irons had the role of
Petruchio in that production. She had also played Bianca
in Kiss Me Kate, the musical based on Shakespeare's comedy, at
the Oxford Playhouse, in 1974. |
