| Walk into a theatre
and mention, say, Twelfth
Night, The
Glass Menagerie, or Electra,
and you will hear tales of Olivier awards, standing ovations,
and critical acclaim. Ask any Zoë Wanamaker fan what they
were hooked on in the 1990s and they will no doubt mention Love
Hurts. Pose the same question today and they will
almost certainly be watching the BBC's My
Family (along with 10 million others). Talk to a
group of Harry
Potter fans, and you will hear that Madam Hooch jumped
straight from the pages of J.K. Rowling’s novels, and onto the
cinema screen. Yet, amazingly, had you Googled 'Zoe
Wanamaker' four or five years ago, you would have found nothing,
nada, zilch... |
Then along came Kirsten's fan
group (now run by Kerrie) in autumn 2001. For the
first time people from all over the world could come together to
chat about Zoë's work. Now with over 200 members, we're
never short of conversation! It was obvious from the start
that
many fans felt Zoe's talents deserved more recognition. To
that end, we began collecting all kinds of material concerning
the various projects on which Zoe has worked. Kerrie
and Natalie, in particular, deserve a special mention for often
managing to find even the most obscure pieces of information... |

Inspired by the positive response
to the fan group, and convinced of the need for a proper 'home'
on the Internet for information about Zoe's career, I started
work on this website in summer 2002. I will be the first
to admit that my knowledge of HTML is somewhat limited, and
collating information about Zoë's career in this way was always
going to be an enormous task. Eventually, however, the
Fansite began to take shape, and was then launched on
30.07.02. Zoë made this website 'official' a few months
later, for which I am very grateful. |
Whether you are a committed fan,
or just curious to learn about her work, I hope you will find
something of use on this website, and leave with renewed
interest in what Zoë does so well. |
